FRIENDS: Real or fake?

by knowledge on July 13, 2008

When I was a young boy my father repeatedly told me that there was no such thing as friends. Imagine for a moment what your reaction would be to that statement. I was probably 5-6 when I first remember hearing that and continued to hear it throughout my childhood.

I never put too much weight in my father’s belief. Although I can’t help but wonder if he was just saying that to keep me from falling victim to peer pressure. My father was a hard working man but was illiterate and didn’t get past the first grade in Mexico.

Could he just be trying to protect me by making such a harsh remark?

PROTECTION FROM A CRUEL WORLD?

I believe so. As I write this I look back at my life and can actually say I have rarely had a friend that I did not trust. For some odd reason my friends were loyal and awesome! Those few that may have been questionable did not last in my circle of “amigos” very long. In which case they were not fake friends, but rather not friends at all.

In looking through my group of friends now, I can say I must have some of the greatest friends in the world. (So predictable, eh?) If ever I need a favor they are there. Even when my pride does not allow me to ask for help they are there giving me a helping hand and smacking “upside” the head for not asking.

Let's do some math...

If this is true than I must be an A+.

Thank you guys and gals for all that you do. As I continue to write in this blog you will hear their stories and how awesomely great (yes that is proper grammar) these individuals are. I do not know where I would be without them.

Sorry father, but friends are real. But thank you for trying to protect me.

p.s.
Should we have a National Holiday for friends or simply appreciate them every day we see them?
