Am I A.D.D.?

by knowledge on December 4, 2008

Yes I have ADD and pretty proud of it, thank you very much. Although I have never been clinically diagnosed. Much respect goes out to my parents for just putting up with my hyperactivity.

One of the realizations that I have had in my journey is that I have a problem focusing. I cannot seem to stay focused or follow procedures.

Rafael Casal does a marvelous job in this piece in illustrating the situation many of us with “lack of focus” seem to find ourselves. Modern day society frowns down on people that cannot stay focused and just do it the “like we have always done it”

I never realized I had this problem until I had a supervisor say to me ” I think you are so A.D.D.”

Those simple words sent me into a tailspin.

HUH?

In my current career it is pretty useful to have multiple projects going on at one time. In my business endevours it can keep me from progressing as fast as I would like. My good friend and business(!) partner at AADventures:

“I have the shiny object/ blinking light syndrome”

However in my internet marketing studying I have learned that it is a blessing to have my curse (confused yet).

Many of the world’s greatest innovators showed ADD tendacies and were eventually able to use it to create things that at times revolutionized our world.

Now, I am not trying to cause a revolution (yet). I am developing different business ideas and now able to use my natural abilities and give my gift in a multitude of ways.

Acceptance. I am who I am.

Since accepting my gift as a gift I have been able to leverage it to create and develop a lot of my ideas.

Truth be told, I do have to consistently hold myself back from jumping to the next shiny object until I have come to a stopping point on what I may be currently working on. Once again, it is a development process.

I am still misunderstood by the general public but have to forgive them for their lack of undersatnding.

Ohhh look a shiny object…
